Water heater repair in Sonoma County: hot water back, often the same day

No hot water, a pilot that won't stay lit, a puddle under the tank, an error code on the tankless: most of it is a part, not a new heater. We diagnose a tank unit for $129 ($225 on tankless), quote the fix in writing before we touch anything, and repair every brand, tank or tankless. Based in Santa Rosa, serving Sonoma County since 2007.

What's your water heater doing?

Match the symptom. Most of these have a straightforward fix, and we tell you which ones don't.

  • No hot water at all

On a gas tank it's usually the thermocouple, igniter or gas valve; on electric, a failed element or thermostat. Diagnosable in one visit, and often fixed in the same one.

  • Runs out too fast

A broken dip tube, a failed lower element, or a tank full of sediment can cut your usable hot water in half. The fix is usually a part, not a new heater.

  • Leaking or pooling water

Shut the cold-water valve on top of the tank if you can, then call. A leaking fitting, T&P valve or drain valve is repairable; a leaking tank body is not.

  • Pilot won't stay lit

Classic thermocouple or flame-sensor failure: one of the most common and least expensive water heater repairs we do.

  • Rumbling, popping or banging

Sediment baked onto the bottom of the tank. A flush and a new anode rod usually quiets it and adds years to the unit.

  • Rusty or smelly water

A spent anode rod lets the tank corrode from the inside. Replacing it early is a low-cost repair; waiting turns it into a replacement.

  • Water too hot, or swings

A stuck thermostat, a bad mixing valve, or a failed element. We check the whole chain and set it safely.

    Book a repair
  • Error code on a tankless

Scale, a flow sensor, or an ignition part, not a dead unit. Our tankless diagnostic reads the code and tells you exactly what's going on.

The honest call

Repair or replace? We'll show you both numbers.

A repair that buys two more years on a 14-year-old tank isn't a favor to you. When replacement is the smarter spend, we say so, and when a $200 part fixes a 5-year-old heater, we say that too.

  • Repair usually wins when the unit is under about 8 years old and the failure is a part: element, thermostat, gas valve, igniter, anode, valve.
  • Replace when the tank body is leaking, when repairs are stacking up on an old unit, or when a rusted tank is putting rust in your water.
  • Either way, you get a fixed price in writing and the trade-offs explained in plain English.

What we fix

Common water heater repairs, every brand

Bradford White, Rheem, A.O. Smith, American Standard, Navien, Rinnai, Noritz and more, including units we didn't install.

  • Thermocouples, igniters & flame sensors: the parts that keep a gas heater lit
  • Gas control valves: replaced and leak-checked, with the burner tuned
  • Heating elements & thermostats: on electric tank units, upper and lower
  • Temperature & pressure (T&P) relief valves: a safety part that should never be capped or ignored
  • Anode rods & tank flushes: the maintenance that stops rust and sediment before they kill the tank
  • Dip tubes & drain valves: quick patches for "not enough hot water" and slow drips
  • Expansion tanks & pressure-reducing valves: high pressure is a common hidden cause of leaks in Sonoma County homes
  • Tankless descaling, sensors & ignition parts: all major brands, including units we didn't install
  • Leaking fittings, flex lines & shutoff valves: the small stuff that ruins a garage floor
  • Venting & combustion-air corrections: so the unit runs safely and passes inspection

Water heater repair FAQs

How much does water heater repair cost?

It starts with a $129 diagnostic on tank units ($225 on tankless, which takes longer to test properly). Your tech then gives you a fixed price for the repair, and, if it's close, a price for replacement too, before any work starts. Most common repairs (thermocouple, element, thermostat, valve) cost a fraction of a new unit. No hourly surprises.

Can you fix it the same day?

Often, yes. Our trucks carry the common parts for the major brands, and same-day appointments are frequently available across Sonoma County during business hours. If a part has to be ordered, we tell you the timeline before you commit.

Should I repair or replace my water heater?

Rule of thumb: if the tank itself is leaking, it's replacement time, because no repair fixes a corroded tank. If it's a part (element, thermostat, gas valve, igniter, anode), repair usually makes sense, especially on a unit under about 8 years old. We show you both numbers and the honest trade-offs; you decide.

Do you repair all water heater brands?

Yes: Bradford White, Rheem, A.O. Smith, American Standard, Navien, Rinnai, Noritz and the rest, tank or tankless, gas or electric, including units another company installed.

Why is my water heater leaking?

The most common sources are the T&P relief valve (often because house pressure is too high), the drain valve, the inlet/outlet fittings, or condensation on a gas unit. All of those are repairable. Water coming from the seam or bottom of the tank means the tank has failed and needs replacing. Turn off the cold supply valve if you can, and call.

Do you service tankless water heaters you didn't install?

Yes. Diagnosis, descaling flushes, sensor and ignition parts, and warranty-era repairs on the major tankless brands. In Sonoma County's hard water, an annual descaling is the single best thing you can do for a tankless unit.
